Changes
This month, as spring turns to summer, I’d like to discuss change. How do we notice change? How do we adapt to change? What changes in our lives? Do we fear change or embrace it?
People say change is good or change is bad. I disagree. All change is necessary. The seasons change, plants and animals change, the planet is constantly changing. To be alive, we must also change. To resist change is to be out of alignment with nature and our true selves. Without change, we cease to exist. Losing a loved one is a change most of us fear. It saddens us, tests our ability to cope, and often leaves us devastated. But, if we understand that our loved one is continuing on their path and helping complete the perfect cycle of the Divine, we may acknowledge that this change can be positive and good.
How can we embrace change? We can start by bringing our bodies and minds into alignment with nature. It’s actually very simple: Be conscious of eating foods that are in season, watch the changes in your yard or garden, take walks on your favorite paths and take note of what’s flourishing and what’s dying off. Keep in mind that the death is as necessary as birth in the cycle of life. Do you watch the changes in your body as it ages with horror? Try embracing them and welcoming them with love. Outwardly, you’ll look exactly the same. But you’ll feel so much more peaceful, joyful and alive inside.
Yoga is a wonderful tool for getting our bodies in alignment with the seasons. Connie Habash of Awakening Self writes monthly articles called “Yoga for the Seasons” that contain wonderful information on seasonal alignment. Be sure to sign up for her newsletters--they’re both informative and fun.
Do you find change stressful or difficult? If so, there are great tools that can help. One is to wear stones that allow water energy into your life. Some are Ocean Jasper, Rose Quartz, Amazonite, Clear Quartz, Smokey Quartz, Carnelian, Jade and Aventurine. I can work individually with you to find what kind of stone might meet your needs to help you accept change and allowing it to happen naturally.
Spending time at the ocean is another wonderful tool for nurturing and embracing change. Go to the ocean and watch the waves hit the shore. Remind yourself that each wave creates abundant (and quite sudden) change to both the water and the sand. But neither the ocean nor the beach would be the same--or even exist--without them. Tell yourself that change in your life is as natural and inevitable as those waves hitting the shore.
Another challenge change can present: what if we want change, but it just won’t come? Perhaps you feel stuck. You want a new career, but it’s just not happening. You want a new relationship, but just can’t meet the right person. Or you just want something new to happen in your life, but it’s same old, same old. Again, bringing some tools into your life can help. Jade allows you to welcome gifts from the universe you may not have anticipated. Amazonite can help you adjust the perception you have of the world or yourself. And the herb Rosemary is wonderful for facilitating change and bringing abundance into your life.
Meditation is another great tool for finding and embracing change. During my Stone and Chakra Meditation class, I teach a wonderful chakra meditation that can help find blocks or obstacles. Meditation and prayer with the intention of telling the universe that you are ready for change is very powerful. But remember, you just may get what you ask for.
Notice change, create it, embrace it and enjoy it. It’s the heart and soul of life.
Blessings and Peace,

Stone of the Month |
Serpentine
Awakening Change
Serpentine is a dense stone in green, black and sometimes pale yellow colors. It is indigenous to California and Oregon as well as UK, South Africa and Brazil. Serpentine is created when lava hits the ocean floor--it is made quickly from water and fire. It then travels through the earth to appear in river beds and mountain tops. Serpentine proves that beauty and strength can be found through trials.
This stone is powerful for raising the kundalini energy in our base chakra and allowing an alignment of all our chakras. It facilitates a movement of energy throughout our body, mind and spirit. It is said that this stone holds the key to healing our Great Mother. It has been a recorder of the Earth's shifts and changes. Working with this stone can allow one to find healing tools.
Serpentine allows our world view to move beyond the human existence and begin an appreciation for the age of the world and nature. It holds a profound truth. Working with this stone in meditation can create a powerful enlightenment. It will assist you in adapting to changes in your life or help you get out of the “stuck” feeling. Moving the energy of this stone throughout your seven chakras brings you into alignment with natures changes and allows one to find more peace of mind.
Physically this stone is wonderful for cell regeneration and healing. I work with Serpentine in the element of earth and in the first chakra aligning it with the seventh.
Enjoy Serpentine.
