Stone Medicine with Renee
Third Chakra? Tell me she isn’t going to write about that one! Ick!
That’s right, this month I want to talk about the chakra that gets a bad rap. It was never my favorite and I assumed I could get through this lifetime without “going there.” Ha! I was wrong.
The third chakra is the one our society abuses the most. It’s the center for our self esteem, self image, will, and personal power, and is not-so-coincidentally located in the center of our solar plexus. It’s where we hold jealousy and all those other unattractive ego traits. A huge contributor to third chakra damage is the media; the advertising world, movies, and television impose the idea of what a perfect body is supposed to look like, or what it means to be a “real” woman or a “real” man. In addition, physical, mental and emotional abuse can cripple our third chakra, force us to hold it in, hide it and mold it into what we believe the world wants.
The first time I had to work on this chakra (in my stone priestess classes) I was shocked by how much I hated it. I was cranky, resistant and overall a pain in the butt. (My fellow students are laughing right now.) I worked with Citrine, Amber, Malachite, Bloodstone, and Unakite. The change was significant, and really improved my life. Then at our graduation, we reached into a dark bag and pulled out a type of stone medicine to work with for the continuing year. When I pulled Citrine, the foul language that erupted from me was not pretty. This meant an entire year working with the third chakra! They had to be kidding! I felt that I had completed my work, and how dare the stones tell me there was more to do? After several weeks of stomping my feet I decided that perhaps there were a few more things I could work on. Shocking, I know!
That year was the year I discovered more personal power, stepped away from abusive relationships, left a toxic job and decided to actively pursue my dreams. I became more of who I already was and began to really fall in love with myself (beautiful fat and all!).
Later that same year my spirit-sister, Connie, sent me an article she had written called “Listen to your gut” from her wonderful site www.awakeningself.com. In the article, she talked about hearing the wisdom in the third chakra. I wondered if there was a stone to help with that. Then I remembered Moonstone! I had always worked with and loved Moonstone, particularly for help with intuition, connecting with the ethereal (angels and guides), and the moon and stars. What better medicine to bring down into the poor battered third chakra. Moonstone allowed me to hear and feel my third chakra and tune into my “gut instinct” more easily. It shines a stunning moonlight into an otherwise dark and traumatized area. I also wear moonstone when I have a stomach ache or feel down about myself. It brings that soothing angel light in.
So bring some light into your third chakra and stand up straight! Let that tummy stick out! Feel what an amazing being you are!
Until next month. Blessed be,

Obsidian
Embrace Your Dark Side
Obisidan is an amazing stone that comes in a variety of shades: Mahogany, Snowflake, Black, and Rainbow. During this autumn month I want to encourage you all to work with Black Obsidian, also referred to as Apache Tear Obsidian.
Used for tools since the beginning of time, this amazingly intense stone can still be used as a tool today: A tool to work on embracing all of who you truly are. Good and bad. Obsidian helps you see all your parts so that you can be more whole and complete.
It helps you feel better about the darkness, because ultimately, it is the stone of protection. Under Obsidian’s protection, you have the courage to tackle any obstacle; it can protect you from other people’s negative energy and will prevent you from becoming drained by other’s needs.
Obsidian can also be used for scrying and meditating. It clears negativity and allows you to discover hidden potentials, dispersing unloving thoughts. Its detoxifying qualities create a pure energy and vitality.
